Falcon’s specific mold drivers
Falcon is east of Colorado Springs, on the high prairie above the Black Forest divide. The terrain is flatter than the city itself, the homes are mostly newer (much of the area’s growth has been since the early 2000s), and the soil is sandier than the clay-heavy ground around Fountain. None of that makes Falcon immune to mold — it just shifts where the mold tends to show up.
Two patterns dominate calls from this area.
Newer-build moisture defects. Homes built during fast development cycles sometimes ship with construction defects that take a few years to surface. Common ones in Falcon: improperly sealed window flashings that leak in driving summer storms, deck-to-house intersections where flashing was skipped, and bathroom exhaust fans vented into attics instead of through the roof. Each of these creates a slow moisture problem that compounds for two to five years before mold becomes visible.
High-wind storm damage. Falcon takes more wind than the Front Range proper. Severe wind events, including the regular spring downslope events and occasional summer derechos, lift shingles, damage flashings, and crack siding. The resulting leaks are easy to miss because they may not produce immediate water stains — moisture wicks into wall cavities and grows mold in framing before any drywall change is visible.
